GUEST BLOGGER OF THE MONTH: JORVY ESPINOSA OF GEISHA INCARNATE IN HER NAPA VALLEY ADVENTURE

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

It has been a lot time since I had my blogger of the month. I am so excited that my guest blogger for the month of March is one of the women that I admire a lot. She is one of those triple threats who can sing, dance and act. Did I mention she is also gorgeous and has an amazing fashion sense?  I present to you: Jorvy of Geisha Incarnate who will share with us about her favourite valley in California: Napa Valley!

Introduction  on Geisha Incarnate:

1.     Who is the Geisha Incarnate  and what is your blog about?

Geisha Incarnate
I refer to myself as a modern geisha - artistic, knowledgeable, not afraid to love, passionate, and a study in contradiction. I blog about myself, my interests, my passions, and anything that catches my fancy or my fury.

2.     When and how did you start blogging?

I started blogging when I was in Manila in the early 2000. I felt I needed an output for all my thoughts that I couldn’t write on paper for lack of a good-looking journal.  I considered it as my online diary.

3.     What is your catch phrase for your blog?

Change is the only thing that is constant.

A constant, really.

4.     Who is/are your favorite blogger/s?

I haven’t really discovered yet. That I have to find out.

My Favorite Valley: Napa Valley, California

When I went to San Francisco in 2007, all I had in mind was seeing the Golden Gate Bridge. You see, whenever I would travel far and wide, I always make it a point to go to the most famous points of interest of a particular locality and that would seal the deal for me, so to speak. Only then can I proudly exclaim, “Yes, I’ve been there!”

But I don’t know what and how it happened that I suddenly had the urge to go to Napa Valley considering that I only had a few days of vacation there. I’m guessing it was upon advice from friends or from something I read about Napa as a must-go-to. It’s outside San Francisco but quite near Vallejo where I stayed with my aunts and cousins. It was a good thing my cousin, who offered to be my driver, hasn’t been there, too, so he was just as excited to go with me on that journey. Armed with a printout from Yahoo Maps, we bravely went to seek an adventure!

It was an early morning and the cool, chilly, but sunny, California morning was upon us. I was so giddy and I couldn’t resist imagining Keanu Reeves walking by the vineyards with me a la “A Walk In The Clouds” (the movie). Sigh. Well, I had to snap myself out of my reverie as I exhaled in the beauty of the lush vineyards that suddenly appeared before my very eyes. The only thing that bothered me during the entire trip was the fact that we had to watch out for drivers that may be under the influence of alcohol. Well, Napa Valley, after all is wine country!

We finally settled on Darioush Winery and I had my first wine-tasting ritual! I even forgot what I got but I remembered trying three kinds of wine and I ended up so tipsy at 10 in the morning! Not possible back here in Iloilo City! Ahh, I can still recall going outside to take in all the view, gazing at the vineyards, wrapping my arms around me as I felt the chill, sipping my glass of wine, basking under the sun, and just having a moment. Can you picture it out? It was an amazing experience, although, I couldn’t help but think of my then-boyfriend, now husband, Wewin, and how romantic it would have been had he been there with me. But, notwithstanding, the best thing about having a male cousin drive you there is that he’s so not into your moments so he can be your photographer, too!

Finally, it was time to go and we checked out other wineries but I guess Darioush really had an impact on me that a couple of years later, I went back again with my family. I was with my parents, my sister and her family, my aunt and cousin (the same cousin who drove me there years back!). I skipped the wine-tasting this time and instead focused on their other products available for sale at the shop. We bought a bottle of olive oil and some goblets for our wine.

It’s been three years now and I’m now married with a child. I can still see myself going back to Napa Valley. Maybe my cousin will add being a babysitter to his roster of tasks?

See you soon, Napa.###
