TOURIST GUIDE: GARDENS BY THE BAY

Sunday, February 3, 2013

Desiring a relaxing weekend, three doctors decided the best way to relieve some of weekday stress is to commune with nature one Saturday afternoon.

So me & my two friends headed to Gardens By the Bay. This is a 250 acres of reclaimed land transformed into a beautiful park.  The park consist of  three gardens. The park also has two conservatories: The Flower Dome & The Cloud Forest. Since we are feeling a little bit thrifty that day, we decided to just choose one of the conservatories instead of two. We chose the Cloud Forest  because it sounds more intriguing.

For entrance tickets, one conservatory costs $12 (local resident), $16 (standard rate) and two conservatories cost $20 (local resident), $28 (standard rate).

As we entered the Cloud Forest, we were greeted by a cool mountain-esque air. Was it air-conditioning? Hmmmm.... Then we saw this pretty man-made mountain and falls. So breathtaking!

We have to ride a lift to go on top of the "cloudy forest" and work our way down. Mind you, for those who have fear of heights, this might no be your cup of tea. But really, it is lovely on top.

As you reach down, there are also crystal caves, water ponds and some 3D educational presentations about enhancing and protecting Mother Nature.

After we left the cool refreshing air of the Cloudy Forest, we headed to the Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay. It is the peculiar-looking tree-like structures  with heights reaching from 82 feet to 160 feet. They are very visible from a far if you are in the decks of Marina Bay Sands.

We got a ticket for the OCBC skyway to walk across these magnificent structures. A ticket cost $5 for Adults and $ 3 for Children 3-12 years old. It was a short narrow walk on the connecting bridge. Then as we got down, we saw people lying down the grass to see the Supertrees come to life in a magnificent light and sound show. The show is on at 7:45 PM  and 8:45 PM every night.

How it looks as we lie down

It was a wonderful day of nature, lights, sounds and bonding moments with friends... A perfect weekend stress buster for sure...
