You see that last year, my boyfie suggested we watch the Dinagyang Tribal Dance Competition with proper seats. I have never been keen on watching it live but when I (reluctantly) agree, I became a convert. Watching it raw, live booming with thunderous drums, it jolt your senses and gives you goosebumps. I love Dinagyang! To share this experience, I told my parents together with my baby bro, nephew and niece that they should watch it with us. We wanted to get seats in Freedom Grand Stand because that is where the competition will take off. Tribes then will transfer in other judging stations all over the city after finishing at the Grand Stand. I did try to get good seats. I was tipped on the day the tickets will be sold because it sells like hot pancakes. But when I went to the place to buy tickets, there were no more front seats. I was left to buy extension seats (right side) at the Freedom Grand Stand.
During the Dinagyang Competition, I was a bit saddened. I have to be honest, we bought P1,000 for that seats but we just saw the side of the tribes. Plus the element of surprise is gone because we could already see at the back what they will do next. In addition to that, the sun was beaming so hard right at us! Since it was my second time watching I would know the difference of watching from the side and in front and it has a big big difference, really. Though we didn't complain these sentiments there, the heat and the poor seats made almost everyone cranky that we hear loud complains about the organizers & their noisy seatmates and semi-heated exchange of people asking them to close their umbrella, stop standing & whatever things they can find to complain about. So to avoid these next time, here are tips for those joining us in Dinagyang 2013:
1. Don't buy extension seats. I am sorry, I know its good business for the organizers but you won't get your money's worth.
2. Buy your seat tickets earlier. Though I did that and still got poor seats, maybe I just thought I bought earlier but maybe I was 1 day late.
2. Wear sunblock. I just remembered that too late. Now I am suffering from a dark forehead, hehe.
3. Hydrate. Bring lots of water. It gets really hot so better bring some H2O.
4. Bring a hat, vizor or umbrella. But just make sure you don't bring a big umbrella because you will definitely hear snippy complain from someone, hehe.
5. Bring a fan. I am not talking of bringing an electric fan, ok? hehe..
6. Wear shorts, skirt, sleeveless shirt and light-colored shirt. Our family decided that we all wear Dinagyang shirt for the event and decided on a color: black. Bad! It was too hot for black... But my baby bro and niece knew better and got a shirt in white.
7. Bring a camera or phone with a full battery. I brought my trusty iphone and i took some lovely shots of the competition the help of instagram.
