SAIGON, VIETNAM: DAY 1 (CITY TOUR)

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Every year our family tries to visit one country. My parents has instill in us the beauty of travelling. How it will enrich your mind and open your eyes to culture of other countries or cities. I will definitely carry that on with my kids someday. So for 2013, we decided to travel to VIETNAM! Saigon (Ho Chi Minh), Vietnam to be exact.

So if you guys are planning on a trip to Vietnam City, I will have series of blogs of our itinerary, the food, tips and outfits to wear to guide you in your travel.

For day 1 in Vietnam, I will call the day - City Tour. We went to these several landmarks for our first day.

REVOLUTIONARY MUSEUM

This can be found in Ly Tu Trong Street. Admission fee is at 15.000 VND. Inside are old artifacts and there you will get to understand the struggle of Vietnamese people under the French and American invaders. They are also very big on weddings and there are several statues and dresses displayed explaining the cultural traditions of how weddings are done. Also during our visit, there were a lot of brides and grooms having pictorials there. We got to see 3 brides that day, hehe... The place was quite large and we took the time in viewing each rooms and the artifacts. After that, we got a bit thirsty and we bought some drinks at the Cosmo Cafe at the back of the museum. They got free wifi there.. Weeee!

NOTREDAME CATHEDRAL

my sis at NotreDame Catedral
This was constructed by the French in year 1800s. It is located in heart of the city. The cathedral has two beautiful bell towers. There is a large statue of Mama Mary outside the cathedral that we could see lots of birds flock to it. It was reported that that statue of Mama Mary shed tears last 2005. However, the Catholic Church in Vietnam's official stance is that the statue did not shed tears. It was unfortunate that we weren't able to go in the church that day because it was closed. Visiting hours is at 5:00 AM to 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM

WATER PUPPET SHOW

We made arrangement with the hotel's travel agent to get tickets for us. It cost 50.000 VND. We took the 6:00PM show. We got time to rest for a bit in the hotel. The hotel front desk gave us our tickets and gave us instructions to go to Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street.

The show was in Vietnamese. But there is a brochure to explain the sequence of the program. There are drummers and singers at the side that narrate the story. The voice of the singer is quite shrill sometimes, hehe. I wonder how the puppeteers endure being submerge in the water everyday to do the show. Hands down to them. The show is definitely for kids and I guess, kids at heart, hehe.

That's it for our Day 1 in Saigon....
