When I was in Med School, there was a particular time that I gained so much weight, I resorted to a pesco-vegetarian diet during my 2 month summer vacation. That means no beef, no pork, no chicken, only vegetables, fruits, seafood and rice or bread. It worked! I lose a lot of weight. Then I started reintroducing meat into my diet and I couldn't stop. Boohoo!
However, I realized I need to incorporate more greens into my diet, ASAP. Good thing, I discovered that there are veggie food available around that would trick the senses that they are not actually vegetables.. Haha!
Here are some:
No-meat Non-bacon treat but takes like bacon, hehe.
Vegetarian Chicharon. It comes in salt & vinegar flavor or plain salt flavor. They are made from dehydrated green peas and potatoes. These two snackies might not be the healthiest choices because of all the preservatives. But it's a start to a conscious choice of eating more veggies.
Veggie Coffee?!!! When I saw this in the supermart, I was curious. I got to buy one. It didn't taste as bad as I thought it would. I was actually quite good. However, there is a bit of grainy after taste and there are bit of granules left on the mug or maybe i just didn't stir it very well, hehe...
This looks like a real pork barbecue but it is not. This is a vegetarian barbecue and it taste good too. It bought it from my yoga teacher. P200 for 12 sticks. My youngest brother loved it until he learned it wasn't pork. He put it down and grabbed the hotdog.
Also my other bro can make a mean veggie burger. Too bad, I don't have any picture. But I got a picture of the ingredient he uses.
The great thing about the vege meat is that it weighs 1 kilo in the pack then you soak it in hot water. It swells and would weigh 2x its size, so cost-effective. You will just have to add seasoning and spices to the soaked cutlets. It had a neutral taste so adding seasoning can make it adapt to any flavor like pork, bef or chicken. It claims to be fat free and rich in protein.
There you have it....My tricky-tricky veggie food discoveries... Do you have your own veggie discoveries, too? Do share.....
