FOR THE ADVENTUROUS STOMACHS : YI JIA SOUTH VILLAGE SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

How timely is it that my wedding coordinators are here in Singapore for  a few weeks to organise a beautiful Chinese wedding. A few days after the successful wedding they have coordinated, I got a chance to meet up with them to talk about wedding prep updates.....

Jocelyn, one of my wedding coordinator has a sister who owns a seafood restaurant in Singapore called Yi Jia South Village Seafood Restaurant. We decided to meet up there.

Ji Yia Seafood Restaurant is gem in the Macpherson area. It offers food that not only delights the gustatory senses but also the visual senses. It has its first branch in Toa Payoh and the Macpherson branch is their second branch. I wouldn't be surprise if a third branch will soon be on its way.

That night, I was happy that we had a lot things accomplished for wedding preparation, and that I also got to sample the lovely food of Jia Yia Seafood Restaurant. Foodie in me is dancing inside....

Caution for the weak stomachs though, the foods we ordered are not for you. We chose foods that are rarely seen in ANY Filipino menus. So brace yourself....

BLACK PEPPER DEER MEAT

Hello Rudolph, we are eating you tonight. However, I am pretty sure this deer doesn't have antlers or has a red nose for that matter. This cuisine is wonderfully flavoured by black pepper to give it a bit of zing. Singaporeans love pepper on their food which is why I know this dish is perfect for their palate. It almost taste like beef but more tender. The meat just melts in your mouth.

THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING HONEYDEW PRAWN

This is by far my favourite dish we ordered for the night. It also looks like a piece of art work that you feel bad eating it. They are just too pretty to eat. However, if you tried even just one, you will never regret it. These are deep fried prawns created into balls with yummy sweet sauce on a beautifully bowl made out of honeydew. I love prawns and this is definitely a big hit to my ravenous stomach.

CHINESE HERB FROGS

Frogs anyone? To test how courageous our tummies are, we ordered frogs!!! Challenging ourselves even more, we even took a peek of the green-croaking-things in its pre-cooked-form. I don't know if that was a good idea but we were feeling a bit like Anthony Bourdain that night, so we did. Frog meat taste like a cross between chicken and fish, very tender and soft. It's also white meat so it will make you think you are eating something healthy. It can be a bit bony for my taste but the best parts are its legs. Frog legs are where you get all the good meat.

STRAWBERRY CHICKEN

Doesn't this dish looks delightful? It is so pretty in pink. It is deep fried chicken with creamy strawberry sauce dripped all over. This are perfect for people with sweet palates. This is also best eaten last among all the viands to neutralise  any spicy and salty dishes. I think this dish will be a hit among kids who love any resemblance to yummy sweet treats.

It was a fun night of wedding talks and a wonderful introduction to exotic foods. I had such a great time with my beautiful wedding coordinators who where also my friends.

I will surely come back to Yi Jia again. Maybe next time I will try their seafood menu. I heard they are really good too....
