WHEN IN BACOLOD

It's Masskara Weekend at Bacolod City! I see in my friend's Facebook updates that most of them are heading over to the City of Smiles to join in this annual crazy-fun Masskara festivities. So I take this opportunity to post this blog that has been sitting on my  blogdraft for quite some time. A few weeks before I flew here to Singapore, my fiancĂ© and I celebrated our 2nd year anniversary in one of our favourite and our adopted city, Bacolod!

I know I have posted before my fave places in Bacolod and reasons why I love Bacolod, here are a few additions as well as 're-mentions', hehe... So along with my previous blog post about Bacolod, here is a guide for you guys on who are venturing to the City of Smiles. I hope this helps.

1. Try the Sate Babe of Cafe Bob's

Cafe Bob's is one of the established food chains in Bacolod City. There are several branches all over the city. Some comes for the coffee and the muffins but Cafe Bob's also serves meals and even have Mongolian buffets. One of their bestsellers is the Sate Babe with java rice. It's an adapted Indonesian cuisine that made to suit the sweet tooth of Ilonggos. It is generally a pork barbeque in skewer or barbecue stick with a sweet yummy peanut sauce. There have been so many who tried to copy the unique taste of this dish but no one seem to get close to how Cafe Bob's does it.

2. Stay at their affordable pension houses, chalet and inns

in Circle Inn Lobby
One of the things in Bacolod City have, is the abundance of nice, well-designed and affordable pension houses.

3. Satisfy your sweet cravings at Felicias

This was one of the highlights of J and I's visit in Bacolod since we both have sweet tooth  teeth. We are glad we discovered this place. My favourite is thier macaroons. This is the first macaroons that satisfied me. I will settle for this until I can ever taste authentic French macaroons...

4. Buy some original crafts in the Bacolod Showroom
Bacolod Showroom can be found across the Lagoon park. We had so much fun checking out the crafts and exhibits of the Bacolodnons. So much talent and creativity.....

5. Stroll and dine at Central Citywalk

While roaming around Robinsons Mall, we went out the backdoor of the mall to discover a new another Serendra-esque establishment called the Central Citywalk. New boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops are available there. We saw that soon they will be opening a Razon's branch there too. I am happy to see an organic store. I couldn't help buying the chips made of Red Rice and Malunggay leaves and it tasted so yummy....

6. Have a romantic dinner at Bar 21

It was after all our 2nd year anniversary so a nice romantic dinner is a must in our itinerary , hehe.... The place is perfect for a quiet fine-dining experience with your loved-ones and family and I wouldn't mind being proposed AGAIN, haha, right then and there..... There food was a two-thumbs up. Uhmm, no, make that four-thumbs up from me and J. We had the Pepper Steak and Bicol Express. It made our bellies very happy, hehe.... I heard their Batchoy is good too but we weren't able to try it yet.

7. Party at Mushu

Mu Shu is an Asian Restaurant and Lounge Bar. Their Hainanese chicken is one of their bestsellers. Around 10PM, the restaurants light dim and a DJ would liven up the place with cool R&B and pop dance music. That time we went there, they have fire dancers and the La Carlota drummers to warm up the place. We also saw the Junior Master Chef judge Philippine edition, Chef Jayps there. I am not sure if he is one of the owners and chef of Mu Shu

8. Eat Chicken Inasal

When in Bacolod, it is  a mortal sin not to eat their chicken inasal. They are known for their Chicken Inasal. My fiancĂ© insisted that the best chicken inasal is in Chicken House. If anybody would contest to that statement, I invite you to rebut my fiance's statement anytime, hehe.... But since there is none at the moment, then Chicken House is the current winner of all chicken inasal in Bacolod. The place was packed when we went there but the wait is worth it. The succulent chicken is best eaten by bare-hand, dipping it in soysauce and vinegar. We also drizzle our garlic rice with the fattening (we know! haha) chicken oil...

9. Have a cup of coffee or tea at Kuppa

I would have wanted to hang out and have a coffee at the Kuppa at Hilado Street. But due to time constraint, we had our Kuppa fix at their kiosk in SM City. They have yummy desserts like the one that we had. It looks like a humungous inflated Reeses' Pieces, chocolate-y and peanut-y.

10. Bring home a box of Napoleones

Never go home without these yummy sweet chewy guwwies to bring home to your family and workmates..... I usually buy my Napoleones at Pendy's or Roli's.

Have fun everyone! See you soon Bacolod! Happy Masskara, Bacolodnons!
